Hi everyone!
sorry for the lack of posts coz i was away in Korea(:
and i'm a bit clueless to everything's that going on now, SO! must inform me about everything okay.
i'm glad that the poster's going well! BUT SO SORRY THAT I COULDN'T HELP!
okay so now clara has given me some stuff i have to do:
clara says:
jy, you have to:
1. do the script for 'what is a fuel cell', 'principles', 'practical applications'
i've done the rest for you; please put them in the comments section with the rest, yeah? then it's clearer for you and me!
2. there are four points in the slides that need your attention: they are in bold in the comments section
slides 3, 7, 16, 18 - quite minor
3. practical applications: can add more impressive ones, from our physics blog, the monthly updates part
4. custom animation and pictures!!
very important (:
DEADLINE: BY THIS SUNDAY
i'll rush off to do it now!
sorry everyone once again!

HEY WORLD!
im back from camp and jy's back from korea and clara's back from bali. ok. here's an update an what we've done.
1st june was a FANTASTIC DAY! we've almost completed the poster. we've added in an intro, working principles, advantages and disadvantages, and pictures! so we've still got practical application left. oh but the poster's fantastic. it's on black carbonated paper and we've printed the text black and white and stuck it on. it looks really professional=) oh and the font is professional too!!!! wait till u see it=)))) self-satisfaction yayye=) by the way, we decided to use clara's lower sec maths poster formatting idea. the type that makes it A3 size when folded up=P we also measured the distance carefully and cut it with a penknife so it's very neat! very professional=)
okok. we've decided to do away with the model idea since as according to the rubrics, it would be seen under presentation and therefore would be a pretty small percentage. and we decided it wouldnt be very effective too. seeing that 1, if we show the class, people at the back can't see. 2, if we pass it around, people would be too engrossed in fiddling with the model that they wont pay attention to our presentation. and also it would be hard to show the actual path of the hydrogen and the oxygen atoms.
we've editted and added stuff and content into the powerpoint. likewise, we're still waiting for jieying's part on the practical appliances so once she's done with that then we're done!
okok! GOOD JOB EVERYONE!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

STATIONARY APPLICATIONS
Matsushita to Launch Residential Unit in 2009.
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will launch a 1-KW residential fuel-cell cogeneration system in April 2009 and aims to sell 3,000 to 5,000 units by March 2011 and 60,000 to 100,000 units by March 2016. The price has yet to be set, but goals are below 1 million yen initially, and even lower, to about 500,000 yen by 2012.

PORTABLE/BACKUP POWER
GA, QinetiQ and Jadoo Developing Soldier Power Systems.
General Atomics (GA), QinetiQ and Jadoo Power Systems, Inc. are collaborating in the development of a lightweight, solid-state, fuel-cell-based power system for military applications. The goal is a system that has four times the energy density of the batteries currently used and that derives hydrogen from solid-state ammonia borane cartridges.

Smart Fuel Cell Passes Army Testing; Wins German “Industriepreis 2008” Prize.
SFC Smart Fuel Cell AG’s new 250-watt Alternate Power Source Fuel Cell has success-fully passed rigorous U.S. Army testing by the Army’s Operational Test Command (OTC) at Fort Hood, Texas. The FC-250 provides 250 watts up to 100 hours autonomously with one 7.4 gallon (28 liter) cartridge, which is easily replaced, significantly reducing logistics costs. SFC has also been awarded the “Industriepreis 2008” prize from the German organization “Initiative Mittelstand.” The EFOY fuel cell was selected as the most interesting and innovative solution of 2008 in the “Energy” category.

MICRO FUEL CELLS
DOT Rules to Allow Methanol Fuel Cells and Cartridges on Planes.
U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a final ruling that will permit passengers and crew to carry methanol fuel cell cartridges and fuel cell systems designed for portable electronic devices on board airplanes in carry-on baggage. The effective date of the ruling is October 1, 2008, although voluntary compliance with the ruling may commence as of May 30, 2008. Passengers will be permitted to carry approved fuel cells and up to two spare fuel cell cartridges in their carry-on baggage. The ruling harmonizes U.S. transportation regulations with global regulations adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that went into effect on January 1, 2007. The DOT now joins agencies from a number of countries around the world, including Canada, China, Japan and the United Kingdom, which have already incorporated the passenger allowance into their national standards.
